In his days as an adventurer, Eragayl Arudora made a name for himself as a champion of Shelyn. Devoted to the cause of grandeur, Eragayl eschewed the typical glaive of her champions and instead focused his skills on the longsword and shield. It was his shield that gained Shelyn's blessings, but by the time he retired and began building Castle Arudora, Eragayl's sword, Fearcutter, was arguably his most legendary belonging. With this blade, he slew countless undead and fiends, including the monstrous sahkil Vormingundur, who for many years tormented a dozen small settlements along the southwest border of Varno before meeting his end on this blade's edge.

Fearcutter is a +2 striking astral vitalizing longsword that grants a +2 item bonus to saving throws against fear effects while you carry it unsheathed. When you critically hit a creature with the unholy trait with Fearcutter, the target becomes Frightened 1.

Activate—Cut Fear 1 (divine, manipulate)

Frequency once per round

Effect You swing Fearcutter through the air near a frightened creature. Reduce that creature's frightened value by 1.

Activate—Cut Cruelty 2 (divine, manipulate)

Frequency once per day

Effect You brandish Fearcutter forcefully, and the sword casts a 5th-rank Crisis Of Faith (DC 29 Will save) at an unholy target in range.

Trait Effects

Versatile: A versatile weapon can be used to deal a different type of damage than its listed type. This trait indicates the alternate damage type. For instance, a piercing weapon with versatile S can deal piercing or slashing damage. You choose the damage type each time you attack.

Critical Specialisation Effects

Certain effects can grant you benefits when you make a Strike with certain weapons and get a critical success. This is called a critical specialisation effect. The exact effect depends on which weapon group your weapon belongs to, as listed below. You can always decide not to add the critical specialisation effect of your weapon.

Sword: The target is made off-balance by your attack, becoming off-guard until the start of your next turn.
