Dozens of pictorial stories—told in wood carvings, painting, or pyrography—adorn every outer surface of this +2 resilient wooden breastplate. All are old, and many truly ancient, depicting tales set eons ago on the Plane of Wood. You gain a +2 item bonus to Nature checks to Recall Knowledge. If you know the Collective Memories ritual, you can use Nature instead of Occultism if you're the primary caster.

Activate—Statue Disguise 2

Frequency once per day

Effect The armor makes you look like a wooden statue version of one of the creatures depicted on the armor for 1 hour. This is a 3rd-rank Illusory Disguise, but it can make you look like any creature depicted on the armor. This doesn't change your size or the capabilities of your body, and it scales the appearance of the creature to match yours. You can Dismiss the activation. This disguise is just real enough to make you somewhat closer to a creature of wood. You're affected by two spells while it lasts: 4th-rank Oaken Resilience and Speak With Plants. If you stand still, you gain a +2 item bonus to Deception checks and DCs to appear as an inanimate wooden statue, in addition to the status bonus to Deception from illusory disguise.

Trait Effects

Invested: A character can invest only 10 magical items that have the invested trait. None of the magical effects of the item apply if the character hasn’t invested it, nor can it be activated, though the character still gains any normal benefits from wearing the physical item (like a hat keeping rain off their head).

Magical: Something with the magical trait is imbued with magical energies not tied to a specific tradition of magic. Some items or effects are closely tied to a particular tradition of magic. In these cases, the item has the arcane, divine, occult, or primal trait instead of the magical trait. Any of these traits indicate that the item is magical.

Wood: Effects with the wood trait conjure or manipulate wood. Those that manipulate wood have no effect in an area without wood. Creatures with this trait consist primarily of wood or have a connection to magical wood. These planes consist of trees and other flora latticed in organic patterns. Wood planes are often perfectly constructed to match their desired purpose or environment but aren’t usually outright hostile to visitors.

Armor Specialisation Effects

Wood armor is generally flexible and light, but it can splinter as it breaks, throwing off shards and fragments that damage foes who deal you critical blows.

Medium Armor: If a foe critically hits you with a melee unarmed attack or critically hits you with any melee attack while adjacent to you, it takes piercing damage equal to 3 + the value of the armor's potency rune.
