Soul Glutton

In the mist-choked fens and smoke-clogged ruins of Abaddon dwell creatures made of solid vapor whose roiling bodies drift among the fogs and effluvia of that wasted realm. Among the most unsettling of those are soul gluttons: drifting, ravenous monstrosities whose bodies shift and pulse like mist, yet are clammy and all too solid to the touch. While a soul glutton's favored meal is (naturally) souls, they eagerly attack the living to feed upon their life essence, gulping down the souls as they perish.

Soul gluttons are particularly delighted to be drawn to worlds within the Universe, for here the souls are of a much wider variety of flavors than the twisted, tormented shades that populate Abaddon. A soul glutton's eagerness to feed on worldly souls makes them notoriously difficult to control when conjured—but a promise to let them free upon the world after performing a relatively small service is often enough to secure their fleeting loyalty to a short-lived cause.

Eaters of Souls

These creatures have an unnerving affectation—they enjoy knowing those they feed upon, and before consuming a soul will often take time to converse with it while it still lives, or via talking corpse if the creature is already dead. Conversations with healthy creatures hold very little interest to soul gluttons, as life tends to distort the truths they enjoy hearing about. To a soul glutton, the greatest truths can be learned by reading the mind of a creature at the moment it passes away.
