When the runelords first created the Emerald Chambers, an order of martial spellcasters was established to protect Xin's tomb. Known as the Silent Devotees, members of this order cut out their own eyes and tongues in a gesture intended both to prove their devotion and to ensure that knowledge of the Emerald Chambers would never spread beyond the order. After an initial surge of volunteers, interest in the order waned once the duplicitous nature of the runelords (and rumors of their involvement in Xin's assassination) came to light. Today, only a few dozen silent devotees remain.

The devotees expanded the scope of their mission after the runelords claimed portions of the Emerald Chambers for their personal use. These devotees fitted their empty eye sockets with emeralds magically imbued with the site plans for the Chambers, allowing them to patrol the extradimensional space in its entirety. Combined with the raw magic flowing through the Chambers, the emeralds turned the skin of the devotees a pallid green but also gifted them with a sort of immortality, such that the remaining devotees seem immune to the ravages of time. Today, the Silent Devotees are something more than the humans they once were.

Xin-Hndoros

The most devoted member of the Silent Devotees was surely Xin-Undoros, a loyal champion of Xin and one of the order's first volunteers. Though he predicted Earthfall, Xin-Undoros failed to warn the runelords of the catastrophe, blaming them for the death of his beloved emperor. As punishment for this treachery, Xin-Undoros became a graveknight shortly after the end came. While this transformation returned Xin-Undoros's ability to speak, he still refuses to do so, regarding such an act as a violation of his eternal oath.
